October Newsletter

Welcome to October and to a big newsletter! I’ll dive right in!

First off, HOLIDAY PARTY! We will be holding our Holiday Party on December 8 at 6:30PM. It will be held at Ludwigs!! If you would like to attend, please send a $40 deposit to me via Paypal at m.newell831@gmail.com. Please indicate in the note when you are sending it if you would like a sausage or vegetarian entree. Spaces are EXTREMELY LIMITED and will be given on a first come first serve basis. Deadline for sign ups is October 15th! Get your deposit in soon, it is going to be an amazingly fun evening!!

Next up – SHOE DRIVE! The Go Far Run Group Annual Shoe Drive is BACK, and we are looking forward to another incredible year.

We’re teaming up with Mission Atletica again this year to bring running shoes and gear to athletes in need in Guatemala. We’ll be picking up donations at all Go Far events starting on Sunday, October 1 running through Sunday, December 10. If you’d like to donate some time, we will also be doing donation pick ups at a few races: Berkeley Half Marathon bib pick up (Friday and Saturday, November 17 and 18), Brazen’s Quarry Turkey (Saturday, November 25), and Brazen’s Summit Rock (Saturday, December 9). Please message Stanton if you are interested in volunteering! We could really use a couple people at these events, so thank you in advance if you can help out!

We will be accepting running shoes in any condition (new or lightly used will be given to athletes, old and worn shoes will be sent to Nike to be turned into playground and track materials) along with running clothing (only new or lightly used; no cotton shirts, please) and gear (hats, water bottles, etc).

As Stanton said, WINTER IS COMING! Donate your lightly used shoes and clothing now! If you have friends or family who have stuff to donate, please ask them as well! This is our big project every year, and a big thank you goes out to STANTON for all the hard work that goes into this!

Next up, MOUNTAIN HARDWARE SHOPPING DAY! Similar to the event we did a few months ago, we will be having a shopping day on October 22 at the Mountain Hardware Employee store. The discount will be available to us all month, but we are going to go as a group on the 22 for shopping and food funsies. Please join us! If you can’t make it on the 22nd but would still like to take advantage of the incredible discounts, please message Marcia so that she can get you the information on how to take part. This special will be running for Go Farians until October 31.

For those of you that are interested in checking out the newly opened paths that lead out to Mt. Umunhum, we have scheduled another run on October 21! RSVP here for more details: https://www.meetup.com/Go-Far-Run-Group/events/243854981/

Speaking of the Beginner Run Group, this month will be the final month the Beginner Run Group meets before Daylight Savings Time ends. If you haven’t had a chance to get out on Tuesday nights, please join us! A big thank you to Coach Mike, Coach Lori, and Coach Ranga for leading this group to such success this season!! The group keeps getting bigger and bigger, and I love how many people are coming out now! Thank you to our amazing coaches for helping our beginner runners get out there!

October also brings our annual SPOOKY CEMETERY HALLOWEEN RUN at Quicksilver! We will be meeting at the Mockingbird Entrance on October 28th and running out to the Quicksilver miner’s cemetery. It is super spooky, super cool, and super historic! Come and join us! Afterwards we will be having a pot luck to celebrate Halloween!

Finally, check out our calendar for new Meetups that come up all the time! One new recurring Meetup that recently started again is the Communication Hill Meetup! If you want to get in serious shape, you should check this Meetup out. Lots and lots of stairs means you will gain lots and lots of strength in your running! It is a super fun challenge that helps you increase your endurance and make your butt look good too  Check out our Meetup calendar for more information! Thanks to Marcia for putting that together!

That’s it for October! Remember to get me your Holiday Party deposit as soon as possible to reserve your spot. If you see money refunded to you, that is because we have run out of spots. I will put your name on a wait list in the order requests come in. Thanks all, and have a good October running long and GOING FAR!
