Welcome to January Go Far!! I hope you all had a stellar holiday and are ready to get back at it with training and running! First off, I want to welcome all the new Go Farians who recently joined our run group! We have had over 100 new members in the past month, and I can’t wait to meet all of you! For both new and old members, I’d like to challenge you to introduce yourself to someone you’ve never met before when you are at a Meetup! I promise we are all really nice, and we can’t wait to build a bigger running community here in the Campbell area.
Before I get into the rest of the newsletter – please note that starting THIS SUNDAY we will be now meeting at Peet’s in the Pruneyard instead of Coffee Society. You can park in the Marshall’s parking lot and meet us in front of Peet’s.
I’ve got a few announcements to make, but the main point of this newsletter is really just to welcome our new runners and remind everyone of some ground rules we have here at Go Far.
The most important is to always remember to update your RSVP. Especially on those early morning runs event organizers will usually wait until everyone is there. On those cold, dark winter morning waiting for someone who is never going to show up kind of sucks. Please be kind to your organizers and fellow Go Farians and update your RSVP if you know you are not going to make it. On the other side of that coin, please RSVP if you know you ARE going to make it! Having higher numbers of RSVPs encourages others to also RSVP and join in on the fun.
Secondly, attendance! Every few months or so I’ll go through and remove members who haven’t been active for a while. You are always welcome to join the group again, but I like to keep an active membership at Go Far so you may see a removal message come across your inbox if you haven’t been to a Meetup since 2014 or something silly like that. Again, you are ALWAYS welcome to rejoin!
Next, this is a social group! We have social outings throughout the year, whether that be parties, drinking nights, sports outings, etc. Those of us who organize those events count on YOU to follow through on commitments. If there is a cost involved, please do not RSVP if you do not think you will make it. Often times organizers will put up their own money to secure seats, room reservations, etc. Again, this comes down to just being kind and thoughtful to one another.
Finally, we have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy in this group for sexual harassment. If you EVER feel that you are being put in an awkward or uncomfortable situation, please reach out to Marcia or myself. We have had spammers in this group in the past who direct message members. I would like to be notified IMMEDIATELY so I can remove that person from the group. Also, at Meetups if you feel pressured or uncomfortable at any point please let me know. I will be discreet and will remove the offending person from the group.
I think those are all my rules! Hopefully they are all pretty common sense. They all boil down to don’t be a jerk and be kind to others. Treat others the way you’d like to be treated!
Onwards to upcoming events……..
First off, WINDY HILL! The Meetup will be taking place on Saturday and it looks like we have an awesome group shaping up for this! Windy Hill is by far one of my favorite places to run. I highly recommend checking it out! There are lots of distance options and it is the perfect time of year to run out there. Check out more details here: https://www.meetup.com/Go-Far-Run-Group/events/245170857/
Next up – shopping opportunity!! Have you opened your closet recently only to realize you have, like, zero things to work out in? Get on out to the Columbia employee store and stock up on stuff you need! Here are the details:
Columbia Sportswear Company would like to extend this invitation to all Go Far Run Meetup Group members to access our Employee Store. We invite you to come check out the latest from our family of brands – Columbia Sportswear, SOREL, Mountain Hardwear, and prAna, all at our unbeatable employee pricing.
Your invitation begins on January 26th, 2018 and instructions for store access are located on the attached invitation. In-store assortments are from our Fall 2017 product lines, so come see what we have to offer!
Please note, we are no longer able to accept club rosters as a form of ID. For your members to use this, they will need to provide a membership ID, club uniform piece, a merged email with invite embedded, or for MeetUp Groups, show the app and group participation at time of check in.
Invitations are not transferable but invited guests are welcome to bring up to 4 additional guests. Employee pricing is only available in the Employee Store, including the two kiosks to order online at the employee pricing.
I think that is it for this super long newsletter! Thanks for reading through! Hope to see you out at a Meetup soon. Remember to always GO FAR!
