Happy Thanksgiving, Go Farians!
Hope everyone had fun with their trotting or running over the turkey day weekend, enjoyed some tasty food, and spent some time with their loved ones.
Wanted to give everyone a quick update on the Go Far Shoe Drive! Over the past week or so, we’ve been collecting shoes at several events including packet pickups and race days for the Berkeley Half and Silicon Valley Turkey Trot – and the results have been phenomenal!
First off – a HUGE thanks to our volunteers since the start:
- Michael T for helping out at the Brazen Mt Diablo Trail Adventure collecting 44 pairs of shoes
- Carol, Lenny, and Liat for helping out at the Berkeley Half Packet Pickup hauling in 144 pairs of shoes
- John F, Paulette, Ellen, Marcia, and Meghanfor helping out at the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot Packet Pickups and Race bringing in a whopping 383 pairs of shoes
Thanks also to the Go Farians who’ve contributed so far! We’ve collected 45 pairs of shoes to date!
So what you’ve all been waiting for… the current count:
- 616 pairs of shoes
- 262 tops
- 71 bottoms
- 44 pieces of run gear from sports bras to key holders to fuel belts to back packs!
As of today, we’ve already blown past the combined total of our first two drives (204 shoes from Spring 2014 and 316 shoes from Winter 2014). It has been absolutely amazing seeing all the donations come through our events. We’ve heard stories of people even forgetting shoes at packet pickup that went into the store to buy a brand new pair, and donating those! Our volunteers have come in early and stayed late, braving the freezing cold (SVTT packet pickup was outside! Brrr!) and hearing more about Mission Atletica’s story from the founder himself, Edgar Hernandez. Thank you so much!
We’ve still got a couple more weeks and one more race collection before we wrap up our shoe drive on Sunday, 12/13/15. If you’ve got shoes you’ve been meaning to get rid of or are looking for a way to clean out your closets for all the new goodies you’re looking forward to getting during the holidays or new year of running, bring ’em on by and we’ll put ’em to good use!
